Lex mostly makes music with his son Liam these days — they're Liam & Lex. But
over the years, he's written a bunch of songs of his own.
This album contains songs written and recorded literally over the
past 20 years — some as recently as April 2023, some from before he had any kids at all. It includes multiple podcast
theme songs, Lex's take on what pop music is, and some truly weird stuff.
For very short songs below, the samples are the whole song. For the longer tunes, the sample is just a clip.
5. I Forgot You've long prepared your parting words... but on your deathbed, you can't remember them. I love this morbid song.
6. Project Awesome The soundtrack to an amusing Internet greeting I worked on a lifetime ago. It makes no sense out of context, but I love it.
7. I'm The Real Lex Friedman There's another guy out there whose name is similar to mine. I'm the real me.
8. KC A few years after Kelly Clarkson won American Idol, I wrote a song about her. And the Nintendo Wii.
9. Sorkin' In It Theme song to a podcast with Brian Warren. It's not out yet.
10. There Was This Guy A song whose lyrics were largely improvised, and it shows.
11. Empty Box It's literally a song about an empty box. Verse two rhymes permutations of "side" with "side" three times in a row.
12. Inspector Friedman A theme song to a nonexistent TV show that was meant to be a style parody and not a parody, but is mostly a parody.
13. Secrets & Lies Written in college, and full of angst. Also wordplay.
14. Orange vs. Lager A song about words that are difficult to rhyme. I love this damn song.
15. Spring Is Here It's about Spring. And how it's, well, here.
16. What's a TiVo Another question-answering contest entry. This song had a video and won me a lot of random
electronics and cash. This is a re-recording from several years back that makes it much more listenable.
17. Three Day Weekend Many, many years ago, I bought a harmonizer. I wanted to play with it. This was the result.
18. Your Daily Ringer For people who wish Track 1 could be repurposed as a ringtone.
